Latvian Farmers' Union wins local elections in Jelgava Region
RIGA, June 6 (LETA) - The Latvian Farmers' Union won local elections in Jelgava Region with 30.37 percent of votes Saturday, with the region's mayor Ziedonis Caune running as lead candidate on the Farmers' Union ticket, the Central Election Commission's data shows.
The Latvian Association of Regions came second with 14.53 percent of the vote, leaving the Green Party third with 12.82 percent.
New Unity followed with 11.02 percent, the National Alliance with 10.65 percent, For Development of Latvia with 7.05 percent and Harmony with 5.96 percent of votes.
As reported, 327,938 voters or 34.01 percent of eligible voters cast their votes in this year's local government elections, according to the Central Election Commission's data.
This is the lowest voter turnout since the restoration of independence.
