RIGA, Jan 14 (LETA) - Aluksne Municipality will be included in the Latgale Special Economic Zone (SEZ) under an Action Plan for the economic growth and security of the Eastern Border Region from 2025 to 2027, approved by the government on Tuesday.

As the municipality's spokeswoman Evita Aploka told LETA, Aluksne Mayor Dzintars Adlers (New Unity) believes that one of the most important achievements of the government-approved plan is the inclusion of Aluksne Municipality in the Latgale SEZ.

Adlers believes that the municipality's inclusion in the Latgale SEZ will be vital for the economic growth and strengthening of Aluksne Municipality as a border territory. It means that SEZ support will made available to entrepreneurs and potential investors in Aluksne Municipality.

The municipal leader voiced resolve to work with colleagues from the Latgale planning region and the Smart Administration and Regional Development Ministry to advance the process.

Aluksne Municipality is the external border of the European Union (EU) and NATO. Strengthening border areas in the current geopolitical circumstances requires increased attention, which includes taking care of the border areas' security, social and economic stability, so that the region's residents wanted to live here and felt secure, said Adlers.

As reported, the action plan is intended to stimulate the development of Latvia's eastern border areas. To bring the region's economic competitiveness closer to the rest of Latvia by boosting entrepreneurship and strengthening border security and people's resilience to crises, the measures included in the plan focus on security, economic development and human resources.
