    Akniste county reports highest Covid-19 incidence per 100,000 residents

    RIGA, Jan 19 (LETA) - Akniste county has reached the highest cumulative 14-day Covid-19 incidence in Latvia with 4,087.3 cases per 100,000 residents, according to the presentation of the epidemiological situation in the country for January 17 presented at the joint government and Crisis Management Council meeting today.

    At the same time, there has been a Covid-19 outbreak reported in Akniste psychoneurological hospital with 26 clients and 41 employees testing positive for Covid-19.

    Ape county reported 2,484.5 cases per 100,000 residents, Engure county - 2,470.5 cases - also these two counties had Covid-19 outbreaks in social care centers.

    More than 2,000 cases per 100,000 residents have been reported in Preili and Ropazi counties. Meanwhile, Rezekne reported 1,810.7 cases per 100,000 residents, Ilukste, Lubana counties and Jekabpils reported more than 1,600 cases, Livani county had 1,448.9 cases, Daugavpils county - 1,318.8 cases. Other countries and cities reporting high Covid-19 incidence include Strenci county, Daugavpils, Jekabpils county, Kraslava county, Riebini county, Aluksne county, Dagda county, Adazi county and Talsi county.

    As reported, the two-week cumulative Covid-19 incidence per 100,000 residents is 673.2 cases at the moment in Latvia, which is 1.6 times higher than the European Union and the European Economic Area's average rate of 425 cases per 100,000 residents.

    At the same time, the two-week cumulative Covid-19 incidence last week has decreased 11.4 percent from the week before last. At the moment, 858 new Covid-19 cases per day are registered in Latvia on the average. The share of positive Covid-19 tests has also decreased from 9.1 percent to 8.4 percent. Likewise, the number of Covid-19 tests per day has also decreased 4.3 percent to 10,184 tests.
