Riga street repair works should near EUR 45 million a year - Kirsis
Riga, Oct 24 (LETA) - The volume of street pavement renewal works in Riga should approach EUR 45 million per year in the coming years, Riga City Mayor Vilnis Kirsis (New Unity) said at a press conference on Thursday.
The amount of work already completed this season is around EUR 26-27 million, and it is expected to reach the planned EUR 30 million by the end of the season, the mayor said.
Next year, too, it is planned to carry out repair works on Riga's streets at this year's level - around EUR 30 million, but in the coming years the amount should be increased to near EUR 45 million, Kirsis said.
This year, resurfacing works were planned for 128 streets, including 89 streets with double surface treatment and 38 streets with asphalt resurfacing. Most of the work has already been completed, Kirsis said.
In the mayor's assessment, this season can be considered a very good one, as the most extensive street resurfacing works to date have been carried out.
At the same time, Kirsis admitted that there were also difficulties - the market was not ready for such a large scale of works, including construction companies and construction supervisors.
"Therefore, the volumes have to be increased, but gradually, because the market has to get used to such volumes," said Kirsis.
