RIGA, Feb 16 (LETA) - With the support of the EU Cohesion Fund worth EUR 2,538,253, upgrade of Latvia's air quality monitoring network has been completed, LETA learned from the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center (LVGMC) spokeswoman Sanita Peleke.

During the project, three new air quality monitoring stations have been installed and five existing stations have been upgraded.

Peleke said that this is the first air quality monitoring system upgrade of such a scale after automation of the network 20 years ago.

The new system ensures recording of hourly data. The information also is published on the internet website of LVGMC.

The air quality monitoring stations are located in Riga, Liepaja, Rezekne, Ventspils and Rucava.
