In Riga City Council elections, Latvia First won most votes in Bolderaja, Imanta, Kengarags, Purvciems and Plavnieki neighborhoods of Riga
RIGA, June 10 (LETA) - Latvia First party, which won most votes in Riga City Council elections, fared the best in Bolderaja, Kengarags, Imanta, Purvciems and Plavnieki neighborhoods of the city, according to the Central Election Commission's data.
Latvia First was also the most popular with voters in Riga neighborhoods of Zolitude, Ilguciems, Zasulauks, Ziepniekkalns, Rumbula, Darzciems, Mezciems, Sarkandaugava, Latgale (formerly Maskavas Forstate) and Vecmilgravis. In total, Latvia First was the most popular party in 15 neighborhoods of Riga.
The second most popular party, the Progressives won in 13 neighborhoods - Pleskodale, Agenskalns, Tornkalns, Dzirciems, Kipsala, Petersala - Andrejsala, Riga's Old Town, Riga Center, Avoti, Grizinkalns, Brasa, Teika and Jaunciems.
The National Alliance, which placed third in local elections in Riga, was the most popular with voters in seven neighborhoods of Riga - Ciekurkalns, Jugla, Bergi, Bukulti, Mangalsala, Vecaki and Bierini.
Current Riga Mayor Vilnis Kirsis' New Unity party won the most votes in only one neighborhood, Mezaparks.
In Daugavgriva neighborhood of Riga, the joint ticket of Sovereign Power and New Latvians was the most popular with voters.
As reported, Ainars Slesers' party Latvia First won the largest number of votes in the municipal elections to the Riga City Council. Counting data from all polling stations, the Latvia First won 18.17 percent of the votes, giving the list 13 out of 60 seats in the Riga City Council.
As many as 16.62 percent of voters supported the Progressives, giving them 11 seats, 14.2 percent voted for the National Alliance, giving it ten seats, and the New Unity, the party of current Riga Mayor Vilnis Kirsis, won 12.9 percent of voters' support. The New Unity will therefore win nine seats.
The joint list of Sovereign Power and the Union of New Latvians won 12.13 percent of the votes and won eight seats.
Two other political forces have entered the council - the Stability party, supported by 6.94 percent of voters, and the United List, supported by 6.29 percent of voters, which would allow them to win five and four seats respectively.
