RIGA, June 9 (LETA) - The Central Election Commission decided today that Rezekne regional council will have 19 lawmakers, and Varaklani regional council will have 15 lawmakers.

As reported, local elections in Rezekne and Varaklani regions will be held on September 11. 

The Election Commission's representative Laura Zaharova told LETA earlier that the commission's decision follows the Constitutional Court's ruling that merging Varaklani Region with Rezekne Region was not in line with the Constitution, and Saeima's amendments to the Law on Administrative Territories and Populated Areas, which stipulated that local elections in the two regions would take place on September 11 this year.

Political parties and associations will have to once again submit their tickets for local elections in Rezekne and Varaklani regions.
