Riga City Council fines Clean R company for failure to clean pavements from snow
RIGA, Dec 3 (LETA) - Riga City Council has decided to fine Clean R company responsible for maintaining the conditions of pavements in the capital with EUR 900 a day, LETA learned from the council's communication department.
In case of a repeated violation of the provisions stipulated in the contract, the fine will rise to EUR 1,500 a day.
The Riga City Council also is ready to terminate the contract with Clean R which is currently in force by the end of December.
During the first snowy days in the Latvian capital, the local government discovered that the company fails meet its obligations in cleaning the pavements entrusted to it at less than 50% of the amount stipulated in the contract.
The contract stipulates that Clean R should ensure winter cleaning of pavements, including on holidays and weekends, and that the pavements must be clean by 8 a.m.
