Administrative offence proceedings have been started against candidates and 14 parties for campaign violations
Riga, June 6 (LETA) - The Corruption Prevention Bureau (KNAB) has initiated administrative offence proceedings against candidates running for the local elections and 14 proceedings against political organizations, LETA learned.
Before the municipal elections, KNAB received about 600 reports on possible violations of campaigning. In 450 of these cases, KNAB has found grounds to launch in-depth investigations.
So far, KNAB has initiated 35 administrative offence proceedings, 21 of which have been initiated against natural persons, including candidates, or for a fact, and 14 against political organizations.
The violations detected by the KNAB are mainly related to the illegal use of administrative resources, covert campaigning and unspecified circulation in printed handouts of political organizations.
So far, KNAB has adopted decisions in several administrative offence proceedings for the offences detected.
Given that the relevant decisions adopted by the KNAB have not yet entered into force, the office does not comment further on them.
As reported earlier, the distribution of pre-election campaign material in public space is prohibited on Friday and Saturday, election day.
The pre-election campaigning period before the municipal elections started on February 8 and will last until election day - June 7.
Until the end of the pre-election campaign period, KNAB actively monitors the placement of political advertisements in the press, in public places and on the internet.
