Economics minister will also work from ministry's representation office in Jelgava

Riga, April 24 (LETA) - Economics Minister Viktors Valainis (Greens/Farmers) will work also from the representation office of the Economics Ministry in Jelgava, which will be opened on Friday, April 25.

Valainis said in an interview with the Latvian Television on Thursday that the idea of moving ministries out of the capital had been discussed for decades, but had never been implemented. However, the Economics Ministry has concluded that it is possible to implement it without spending additional resources, using the already existing infrastructure, so it has been decided to establish a representation office of the ministry in the premises of the Jelgava business incubator.

Valainis also noted that there are more than 20 locations where such offices could be established.

"This will be the first one that I will personally work from. The ministry's administration will also work from this location. It will be the relocation of the Economics Ministry to Jelgava," the minister said.

The opening ceremony of the ministry's representation office on Friday will be attended by Valainis, Jelgava City Council Chairman Andris Ravins (Greens/Farmers) and the head of the Latvian Investment and Development Agency Ieva Jagere.

The aim of the establishment of the representative office is to promote regional growth by fostering business development and attracting investment, the ministry previously explained.
