Progressives gain representation in seven municipalities

Riga, June 8 (LETA) - In this year's municipal elections, the party Progressives has gained the largest ever representation at the local level, winning seats in seven out of 42 municipalities across Latvia, re-entering the Riga City Council with 11 seats, the party's press secretary Leticija Liva Lukjanska told LETA.

The party believes that this result demonstrates the public's growing trust in honest, accountable and people-oriented governance in the regions.

Andris Suvajevs (Progressives), co-chairman of the party, commented that this election is the Progressives' biggest ever success in local governments, but it is only the beginning. "The Progressives promise to continue working to ensure clear rules, accessible services and responsible policies in municipalities," he said. Suvajevs is particularly happy for the results in Riga, where voters have put their trust in state-minded and European-oriented parties. "These results show that people increasingly value fairness and care in their city and region," said Suvajevs.

Agnese Lace (Progressives), co-chairwoman of the party, believes that the election results in the regions and Riga mean more to the party than just the number of seats in the city councils. They are proof that people value human politics. She thanks them for their trust and promises to continue working to ensure that municipalities feel a sense of responsibility and a sense of community where no one is left out.

"The stat-minded European parties have been given a clear mandate by the voters and the Progressives will treat it with the highest responsibility for the next four years," promised Viesturs Kleinbergs (Progressives), candidate for the Mayor of Riga.

Kleinbergs, Martins Kosovics, Alija Turlaja, Marta Kotello, Justine Pantelejeva, Aija Melle, Martins Engelis, Mairita Luse, Agnese Logina, Selina Vancane, Ruta Mezavilka were elected to the Riga City Council from the Progressives list.

The Progressives stressed that the support received has allowed new, honest voices, rooted in their communities, to enter local councils, strengthening green and social democratic politics at local level.
