Five parties to form coalition at Ropazi Region Council
RIGA, June 28 (LETA) - Five political parties have reached agreement on forming a coalition at Ropazi Region Council, as the council chairwoman Vita Paulane (For Latvia's Development) told LETA.
The coalition agreement has been signed by 14 new Ropazi Region Council members from For Latvia's Development, New Unity, National Alliance, Latvian Farmers' Union and Latvian Association of Regions.
Harmony party has also expressed support for the new coalition, even though it did not sign the coalition agreement, said Paulane. That means that the new coalition could have the support of 16 out of 19 councilmen.
The three council members who have not signed the coalition agreement are two members of the New Conservative Party and one member of the Movement For.
The coalition also agreed to elect Paulane chairwoman of the council. Paulane will have three deputies.
Paulane told LETA that she wanted to form as wide a coalition as possible. The larger the coalition, the better for the region and residents of the municipality.
At the latest local elections, Paulane's For Latvia's Development won seven out of 19 seats on Ropazi Region Council, according to information posted on the Central Election Commission's website.
