Regional Covid-19 restrictions are not being considered - Pavluts
RIGA, Nov 22 (LETA) - Regional Covi-19 restrictions are not being considered, Health Minister Daniels Pavluts (For Development/For) said in a press conference today.
One of the main reasons why regional restrictions are not effective is the fact that movement and services across regional borders are active. If there are restrictions introduced in one region with higher Covid-19 incidence, it would be difficult to restrict movement across the borders of the region, the minister said.
Latvian President Egils Levits said in an interview with Delfi portal earlier that regional principle should be taken into account in the Covid-19 policy.
He said that there are huge differences in Covid-19 incidence regionally, especially in eastern Latgale region. Therefore, the president believes that additional restrictions should be introduced in this region because restrictions are effective. "Additional restrictions should be introduced if there is higher Covid-19 incidence in any municipality or city," the president said.
