Task of LRA, LZP and Liepaja Party is to change Latvia's status as weakest link of Baltic chain - Pilens

RIGA, May 10 (LETA) - The main task of the united ticket of Latvia's Green Party (LZP), Latvia's Association of Regions (LRA), Liepaja Party and non-partisan organization will be to change Latvia's status as the weakest link in the Baltic chain, said one of the new political platform's initiators Uldis Pilens in a press conference today.

Pilens also invited other parties with similar values to join the new platform.

Pilens said that patriotism is not the value of just the National Alliance, liberal values is not a matter represented just by For Development/For, representation of interests of the Russian-speaking population in Latvia is not just a monopoly of Latvia's Union of Russians or Harmony party.

In order to solve Latvia's largest problem - management capacity - candidates on the united ticket should include business representatives, state officials, medics, farmers and representatives of other sectors, including non-partisan professionals. He said that the goal of the united ticket is to achieve higher intellectual capacity at the parliament.

LZP leader Edgars Tavars said that cooperation among parties - LRA, Liepaja Party - and non-partisan professionals is essential.

Liepaja Party chairman Uldis Sesks underscored that his party aims to prevent social tension that would make people leave the country when they cannot solve their economic situation.

Pilens explained that the new political force will select its candidate for the prime minister in a colleagial procedure.

Sesks said that Liepaja Party has presented Maris Kucinskis as its candidate for the prime minister for further discussions in the united ticket.

The organization of non-partisan professionals will be founded in three or four weeks.

LRA leader, Riga Vice Mayor Edvards Smiltens noted that the values of the united ticket are democracy, freedom and justice.

Pilens said that he himself will not run for the parliament elections.

The parliament elections in Latvia will be held in early October.
