Police launch five violation proceedings and three probes for campaigning violations
RIGA, June 5 (LETA) - Police on Saturday have launched five violation proceedings and three probes into campaigning violations in various areas throughout Latvia, LETA was informed by the State Police.
The majority of these cases have been registered in Latgale.
However, as of 6:00 pm, no major violations have been established, and police describe today's local government elections as peaceful.
Police on Saturday have responded both to information received from the public and patrolled the various polling station. Information has also been received on breaches of public order, which is being investigated.
In the opinion of the State Security Service (SSS), the first half of the election day was also spent without significant incidents, LETA found out from the SSS.
The SSS continues to receive various types of information about possible violations, including attempts to illegally influence voters.
Some cases have already been inspected by the SSS without confirmation of possible illegal activities, but in some cases the inspection is still ongoing.
