    US ambassador thanks residents of Rezekne for supporting Ukrainians

    RIGA, March 24 (LETA) - US Ambassador to Latvia John Carwile, who made a two-day visit to the city of Rezekne in eastern Latvia this week, thanked residents of Rezekne for their support to Ukraine's people, the city's local government informed LETA. 

    During the visit, Ambassador Carwile met with Rezekne Vice Mayor Aleksejs Stecs (Harmony) and visited the Embassy of Latgale "Gors", as well as learned about the assistance Rezekne has been providing to Ukraine's war refugees. 

    During a meeting with Iveta Mietule, Rector of Rezekne Technology Academy, the ambassador discussed the academy's contribution to Latvia's economic growth and people's media literacy. 

    Ambassador Carwile also visited New Fuels, a company promoting production of renewable energy and Latvia's energy independence. 

    The US ambassador thanked Rezekne for the warm welcome and hospitality and for the opportunity to meet and hear local residents. He said he felt encourage by so many people gathering to show their support for Ukraine's people. The local community is very generous, the ambassador said, adding that as allies we need to stay united to ensure our security and help the Ukrainians defend their country.
