Defense Ministry reaches agreement with ammunition manufacturer Ammunity on increasing production volumes
RIGA, April 4 (LETA) - The Defense Ministry has reached agreement with ammunition manufacturer Ammunity on increasing production volumes, the ministry informed LETA.
On Friday, Defense Minister Andris Spruds (Progressives) visited Ammunity plant in Bauska Region to discuss future cooperation, challenges faced by the defense industry, the need to accelerate ammunition production and strengthen security of supply chains.
In the current geopolitical situation, it is essential to ensure stable and even larger supplies of ammunition to both Latvian and allied forces in order to strengthen national defense, said Spruds.
Strengthening ammunition production capacity is a strategic necessity, Spruds emphasized.
Ammunity CEO Beate Krauze-Cebotare points out that it is particularly important to strengthen the country and the region's defense capabilities in the current circumstances. "By developing production of full-spectrum small caliber ammunition here in Latvia, we believe that we will become an important part of a unified regional defense ecosystem," she said.
The minister's visit to the company takes place at a time work on attracting a strategic investor is ongoing, added Krauze-Cebotare.
Ammunity is the leading ammunition manufacturer in Latvia that supplies rifle ammunition to the National Armed Forces.
According to Firmas.lv, the owners of Ammunity are Viktors Juris Ozols, Juris Uzulis and Davis Vilis Ozols. In 2023, the company reported EUR 5,164,933 in turnover and a loss of EUR 466,249.
