Almost half of Ukrainian refugees taken in by Jelgava are children, with several dozen already starting to go to school
RIGA, March 22 (LETA) - As of yesterday yesterday, 293 war refugees from Ukraine have been taken-in in Jelgava, LETA found out from the municipality. Of the refugees taken in so far, 114 are children under the age of 18.
38 refugee pupils have started schooling in seven schools in the city, and two pre-school children have started attending a preparatory class in one of the schools.
The municipality has not received any information of any conflict situations at any of the local schools.
85 people are being accommodated in civil protection accommodation. According to the information available to the municipality, 208 people are being accommodated privately.
The municipality was able to say that at least two people had gained employment, but four more were waiting for answers from companies about the opportunity to work.
The municipality provides various types of social support to refugees. Latvian language courses have been organized for three groups.
