Health Ministry to seek funds to open Emergency Medical Service brigade points in eastern region

Riga, Nov 28 (LETA) - Funding will be sought to open an Emergency Medical Service (NMPD) brigade point in Indra in eastern Latvia and some other places, Health Minister Hosams Abu Meri (New Unity) said in an interview on the Latvian Television.

The minister revealed that on Monday, at a coalition meeting, he had a discussion with NMPD chief Liene Cipule and Kraslava mayor about the establishment of a brigade service point in Indra. Also, on the Liepaja highway, as well as on the Vidzeme and Daugavpils highways.

"It is critical there," said the minister, stressing that next year and the year after, funds will be sought to open brigade points there.

Abu Meri, however, added that it was not just a question of money, but also of people willing to work there.

As reported, next year's budget for the NMPD foresees a EUR 1.6 million cut in spending, and for this and other reasons the service will make changes to the way it organizes its work.

The minister has pointed out, however, that all available data show that the changes will not affect the time it takes for the service to arrive at a call in the regions.
