NGO sector's representative Berzins elected chair of Talsi Municipality Council
RIGA, June 27 (LETA) - The Talsi Municipality Council on Friday elected Ansis Berzins (For the Development of Talsi Municipality/For the Development of Latvia), a former board member of the association For the Development of Sabile, as the new mayor of Talsi Municipality.
In this year's municipal elections, Berzins received 4,222 votes and will replace outgoing Talsi mayor Andis Abolins (Latvian Green Party).
Berzins, the only candidate nominated for Talsi mayor, was elected by 16 votes to three.
In the June 7 municipal elections, the joint list of For the Development of Talsi Municipality/For the Development of Latvia won six out of 19 mandates in Talsi, while other political parties each received two or three mandates.
