Zusts re-elected chairman of Saldus municipal council
Riga, June 25 (LETA) - On Wednesday Maris Zusts, representing Latvia's Green Party, was re-elected chairman of the Saldus municipal council.
Eight out of 15 deputies voted for Zusts. Krisjanis Valters (Greens/Farmers) was absent from the first session of the council.
Zusts has been the head of Saldus municipality since June 8, 2018.
Zusts was nominated for the position of the Saldus municipal council chairman by Latvia's Green Party, while the party For Saldus Municipality nominated the National Alliance's lawmaker Roberts Sipenieks, who withdrew his nomination. The party For Saldus Municipality then nominated Eduards Smits, the leader of its list, for the position.
As reported, Latvia's Green Party, the National Alliance and the Union of Greens and Farmers signed an agreement on the formation of a coalition in the Saldus municipal council and on priority works.
Latvia's Green Party, led by the incumbent Mayor Zusts, received 37.7 percent of the votes at the local elections, while the new party founded by business representatives, For Saldus Municipality, came second with 34.53 percent of the votes. Both parties won six seats each in the municipal council.
The National Alliance with 9.43 percent of the votes came third, with two seats at the council. One lawmakers was elected from the Greens/Farmers list who received 6.24 percent of the votes.
