Infrastructure development at Latvian-Belarusian border entrusted to Valsts Nekustamie Ipasumi

RIGA, Nov 12 (LETA) - The Saeima in the final reading supported the Interior Ministry's legislation on infrastructure development at Latvia's borders with Russia and Belarus, according to which Valsts Nekustamie Ipasumi (State Real Estate) will be in charge of the project.

The government asked the Saeima to put the bill on the fast track so infrastructure development at the border proceed faster.

"Considering there there is ongoing hybrid threat from Belarus, there are still organized artificial migrant flows on Latvia's border, as well as borders of Lithuania and Poland, it is very important that construction works of the external border are moving forward," Interior Minister Marija Golubeva (For Development) told the press after the government meeting earlier.

According to the ministry's proposal, the design and construction will be entrusted to state-owned joint-stock company Valsts Nekustamie Ipasumi, which would ensure greater state control over this process, as it will not be entrusted only to the private sector, Golubeva explained.
