RIGA, July 4 (LETA) - Daugavpils municipal public transport company Daugavpils Satiksme will sign two contracts worth EUR 3.69 million for the purchase of 12 new buses, Daugavpils City Council's Communication Department informed LETA.

Daugavpils Satiksme bus fleet is being actively renovated to ensure that public transport in Daugavpils is comfortable and safe, and vehicle maintenance is economically thought-out and profitable. The first new bus was delivered to Daugavpils last week, and many more vehicles will be delivered in the near future.

The new bus is the first of 20 new buses that Scania Baltic agreed to deliver in a contract signed last year. By the fall, Daugavpils will receive 20 new environmentally friendly Scania buses powered by compressed natural gas. Their purchase is co-financed by the European Union's Cohesion Fund, the total amount of the contract is approximately EUR 5 million.

However, renovation of the bus fleet will not end there, because at a Daugavpils Satiksme shareholders meeting on July 1 it was decided to conclude two more contracts for the supply of 12 new buses, including six electric buses.

One contract worth EUR 1,094,742 will be signed with transport company Transmitto and the other one, worth EUR 2,599,345, with Scania Baltics. Daugavpils Satiksme will receive the 12 new buses by next summer.
