Eight streets in Riga renamed
RIGA, April 16 (LETA) - Riga City Council today supported renaming eight streets in the city.
A square in Ciekurkalns neighborhood between Ciekurkalna 4. skerslinija and Ciekurkalna 5. skerslinija has been given the name of Bralu Irbisu Square.
Last year, the area was landscaped by construction of a wooden stage, expansion of children's playgrounds and others. Unofficially, it was called Ciekurkalns Square.
A street section near the intersection of Duntes Street and Upes Street has been named Vecas Skanstes Street.
The name of Margaritas Starastes Street has been given to a street section from Bauskas Street to Dignajas Street parallel to Ziepniekkalna Street.
The name of Ivandes Kaijas Street has been given to a street section in Lucavsala behind the K-Senukai store.
A street in Old Riga behind Triangula Bastions from Biskapa Gate to Jauniela Street has named Gutenberga Street.
Meanwhile, a section of Austuves Street along the River Daugava near Dienvidu Bridge has been named Saulrieta Embankment.
A section of Ostas Prospekts in Mezaparks neighborhood that goes past Mezaparks Great Bandstand has been named Lucijas Garutas Alley.
Finally, a section of Kandavas Street between Jurmalas Gatva and the Botanical Garden of the University of Latvia has been named Jana Steinhauera Street.
