40% of Baltic residents do not plan to travel this year - survey
RIGA, May 5 (LETA) - 40% of Baltic residents do not plan to travel this year, Swedbank representatives told LETA, referring to the bank's survey data.
The bank also noted that the four most important conditions for people to resume travel are the improvement of the epidemiological situation, the receipt of the vaccine, and the lifting of self-isolation requirements and travel restrictions due to Covid-19.
Residents of Latvia (28%) and Lithuania (33%) would most be willing to go on a trip if they did not have to comply with the self-isolation requirement after returning (19% in Estonia). In Estonia, on the other hand, the most important aspect would be the improvement of the epidemiological situation in the region of destination (23%), but it is also significant in Latvia (25%) and Lithuania (21%).
Two other important factors for resuming travel are the government's decision to lift travel restrictions (30% of respondents in Lithuania, 23% in Latvia and 21% in Estonia) and to receive a vaccine against Covid-19 (27% in Lithuania; 18% in both Latvia and Estonia).
Going on a leisure and entertainment trip is mentioned as the most frequent destination in all Baltic countries (79% of respondents in Estonia, 76% in Lithuania and 73% in Latvia). The second most popular destination is visiting family members and friends living abroad (33% of respondents in Latvia; 30% in Estonia; 28% in Lithuania), while the third most popular destination mentioned by 11% of people in Lithuania and 13% in Latvia and Estonia is work-related trips.
This survey of residents of the Baltic States was conducted in cooperation with SKDS in March this year, surveying 1,000 respondents in each of the countries aged 18 to 75.
