RIGA, Oct 20 (LETA) - Last night, Bitite kindergarten in Loja, Saulkrasti Region, caught fire that destroyed part of the building, while the other was partly flooded, LETA has learned.

About an hour before midnight, the State Fire and Rescue Service received a call about a fire in Seja County, Saulkrasti Region, where the roof and attic of a two-story educational institution were burning. The total area of the fire was 405 square meters, the Fire and Rescue Service informed LETA.

Volunteer firefighter associations from Incukalns and Krimulda also took part in extinguishing the blaze. One firefighter was injured while putting out the fire.

The fire was extinguished this morning at 6:53 a.m.

According to Saulkrasti Region Council, one section of the building was completely destroyed by the fire, while the other part was partly flooded. The building is insured.

The preschool is attended by more than 110 children. At the moment, the children are at home with their parents, but Saulkrasti Region Council is looking for ways to resume kindergarten services as soon as possible. The municipality's officials will visit the fire-damaged kindergarten to assess the situation on-site.
