Mekss re-elected chairman of Ludza municipal council
Riga, June 20 (LETA) - Edgars Mekss (Greens/Farmers) was re-elected chairman of the Ludza regional council on Friday.
Nine lawmakers voted for Meks, while the council has 15 councilors in total.
Mekss was nominated for the post of chairman by the Union of Greens and Farmers, which said he had proved himself to be "a professional leader who has successfully united four regions". The Greens/Farmers also believes that the election results, with seven seats for the list headed by Mekss, confirm its assessment of his performance.
The Latgale Party, for its part, nominated Lolita Greitane for the post of the chair of the council, arguing that she had experience in local government. Four lawmakers voted in favor of Greitane.
One member had voted in favor of both candidates.
As reported, the Greens/Farmers party, represented by the current mayor Mekss, collected the most votes in the municipal elections in Ludza.
The second place with 23.7 percent of the votes went to Latgale Party. The third place with 14.8 percent of the votes went to Latvia First. The Harmony Party followed with 8.3 percent of the vote, while 6.4 percent of the voters voted for the joint list of Together For Latvia and the Latvian Socialist Party.
Voter turnout in Ludza was below the national average at 39.3 percent.
