For Latvia un Ventspils wins again in Ventspils
Riga, June 8 (LETA) - The party of the current Ventspils mayor Janis Vitolins and former mayor Aivars Lembergs, For Latvia un Ventspils has once again won the local elections in Ventspils, according to data published by the Central Election Commission (CVK).
When the pluses and minuses marked in voting slips to the candidates are added up, Vitolins is this time ahead of Lembergs in popularity.
Counting the votes in all 13 polling stations in Ventspils, For Latvia and Ventspils received 47.15 percent support, while the National Alliance came second with 16.87 percent of the votes.
The United List won 15.88 percent of the votes, and the joint list of movement For and the New Unity won 7.72 percent. The Stability party won 5.67 percent.
For Latvia and Ventspills has won a majority of seven out of 13 seats in the City Council.
The National Alliance won two seats in the City Council, while the United List won two seats. Movement For/New Unity as well as Stability won one seat each in the city council.
The other parties in Ventspils have not overcome the 5 percent barrier.
Voter turnout in Ventspils was relatively low at 40.3 percent.
In the current Ventspils City Council, seven seats are held by For Latvia and Ventspils, two seats each by For Latvia's Development, the joint list of Latvian Association of Regions and the New Unity, and one seat each by the New Conservative Party and the National Alliance.
