National Alliance in Jelgava municipality might join coalition with Greens/Farmers

Riga, June 16 (LETA) - The National Alliance in Jelgava municipality might join a coalition with the Union of Greens and Farmers, which won the election, Oskars Cirulis (National Alliance), a member of the municipal council who will also work in the new council, told LETA.

He admitted that there had been talks with Greens/Farmers, which won seven seats in the regional council, about forming a coalition. The two political forces together have ten out of 19 seats in the council.

"I do not see any obstacles to cooperation," Cirulis said.

"Only Latvian-minded parties have been elected this time, so there are no "red lines". The main thing is that the parties are ready to work for the benefit of the society," the lawmaker commented.

He assessed that Ingus Zalitis, the candidate for the post of the chairman of the municipal council nominated by Greens/Farmers, is suitable, as he is currently the deputy executive director of the municipality.

As reported, the Greens/Farmers has won the municipal elections in Jelgava region, receiving 29.06 percent of the votes. The second place was taken by the National Alliance with 12.8 percent.

The Latvian Association of Regions followed with 11.75 percent of the votes, the New Unity received 9.61 percent, and Nation. Land. Statehood - 8.77 percent. Latvia's Green Party received 6.36 percent of the votes.

The other parties in Jelgava region have not overcome the 5 percent barrier.
