    More than half of Latvia's latest Covid-19 cases recorded in Riga

    RIGA, Dec 14 (LETA) - Of the 210 new Covid-19 cases confirmed in Latvia on Sunday, more than half have been recorded in Riga, while other municipalities reported a comparatively small number of cases, according to the data released by the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC).

    Riga reported 127 new Covid-19 cases, which increased the capital city's 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases to 3,280.

    In the Tukums region, 19 new cases brought the 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases to 108. 

    The 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Daugavpils reached 1,147, with 12 new cases discovered on Sunday. 

    The municipalities with the highest 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases include Riga with 3,280 cases, Daugavpils with 1,147 cases, Jelgava with 397 cases,  Krustpils region with 220 cases, Jekabpils with 197 cases, Jurmala with 190 cases, Rezekne with 161 cases, Ventspils with 154 cases, Marupe region with 136 cases, Ozolnieki region with 127 cases and Daugavpils region with 117 cases.

    As reported, Latvia confirmed 210 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday, while another three patients died of the coronavirus disease, according to the data released by the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC).

    Of the latest Covid-19 victims, two were 70-80 years old, one was 85-90 years old. Latvia's total Covid-19 death toll has this grown to 352.

    Of the 2,811 Covid-19 tests carried out in Latvia in the past 24 hours, 7.5 percent came back positive. The CDC explained earlier that in the European Union this indicator is considered important because when this figure rises above 4 percent, the spread of the disease is considered to be rapid and uncontrolled.

    Latvia's total Covid-19 caseload has reached 25,885, and 8,810 of them registered in the past 14 days, according to LETA's estimates.

    The total number of Covid-19 tests conducted in Latvia has reached 731,547.

    On Sunday, 94 Covid-19 patients were hospitalized, including one transfer to a different hospital, and 26 patients have been discharged, while the total number of Covid-19 patients in hospitals has reached 814 - a new negative record, according to the National Health Service data.

    Of all the Covid-19 patients currently in hospitals, 775 have symptoms of medium severity and 39 are suffering severe symptoms.

    The total number of discharged patients has reached 2,056.

    According to the National Health Service data, of the Covid-19 patients in hospitals with severe symptoms, 12 are 50-59 years old, 11are 60-69 years old, eight are 70-79 years old, three are 40-49 years old, two are 80-89 years old and one is 20-29 years old.

    Among patients with symptoms of medium severity, most of the patients are 60-89 years old, three are 10-19 years old and one person - 100 years old.
