RIGA, June 5 (LETA) - On Friday, the State Police started a criminal process on possible vote buying in Zemgale Region, LETA found out from the State Police.

The criminal proceedings will be transferred to the State Security Service, which has the competence to investigate such offenses.

Also, in another case, a departmental investigation into a similar violation was started in Zemgale Region.

One administrative process has also been started regarding un-removed party campaign materials in Latgale Region.

LETA found out from the State Security Service that it is currently cooperating with the State Police, which has initiated the mentioned criminal process for possible vote buying.

In total, during the pre-election period and the previous voting days, the State Security Service has received more than 70 reports about possible illegal activities, of which more than 40 have been on issues within the competence of the State Security Service - mainly on possible illegal influence of voters.

The State Security Service continues to receive signals on possible illegal activities today as well, and by 10 am they were over ten, most of them on issues within the competence of other institutions.

Some cases have already been inspected by the State Security Service without confirmation of possible illegal activities, but in some cases the investigation is still ongoing.

The State Security Service has not initiated any criminal proceedings, but continues to co-operate with the State Police in connection with the already mentioned criminal proceedings.

With regard to other signals of possible illegal activity, the State Security Service points out that they were mostly related to possible campaign violations and were forwarded for further examination under the jurisdiction of the State Police or the Corruption Prevention Bureau, respectively.
