Latvian Russian Union to run for election in at least four cities in 2025 local elections
RIGA, Nov 25 (LETA) - In the 2025 municipal elections, the Latvian Russian Union will run for election in at least four cities, as the party's leader and Jelgava City Council member Andrejs Pagors told LETA.
Makeup of the party's board changed earlier this month as Dmitrijs Sandibins and Dmitrijs Zulins were elected to the board. Now the party's board is made up of seven members, said Pagors.
According to Firmas.lv, the Latvian Russian Union's board also includes Vladimirs Buzajevs, Jevgenijs Osipovs, Anna Bondere and Julija Sohina.
The Latvian Russian Union is currently preparing for the upcoming elections, but Pagors could not say exactly in which municipalities the party would run for election. Yet he said that the party would definitely run for seats in Riga, Daugavpils, Liepaja and Jelgava city councils.
Pagors, who is currently Latvian Russian Union's only representative on Jelgava City Council, will be number one candidate on the party's ticket for local elections in Jelgava. He did not deny that it would be a challenge for the party to find a new leader in Daugavpils, given both the fact that the city's vice-mayor Aleksejs Vasiljevs has quit the party and the establishment of a new party in Daugavpils, Sarauj, Latgale! (Let's Go Latgale), by Daugavpils Mayor Andrejs Elksnins.
As reported, this past September Pagors and Osipovs, previously known for their pro-Moscow views, were elected leaders of the Latvian Russian Union, which led to some members leaving the party.
