Vaccination rate in Latgale by half lower than average in Latvia

RIGA, May 25 (LETA) - Vaccination rate in Latvia's eastern Latgale region is by half lower than average in Latvia, according to Vaccination Project Bureau's head Eva Juhnevica at the Saeima public expenditure and audit committee meeting.

The average vaccination rate in Latvia is 11.3 percent, Kurzeme, Riga and Vidzeme show the highest rate of vaccinated people - 13.6 percent in Kurzeme, for example.

Zemgale reports 9.4 percent vaccination rate, while Latgale - just 5.5 percent.

In order to promote vaccination in Latgale, four mobile vaccination points have been organized in cooperation with the National Armed Forces and local governments - in Spogi, Silene, Malta and Vilani - where 535 people have been vaccinated.

Also in the future, vaccination spots will be organized in the tents provided by the National Armed Forces and premises of the local government for vaccination of 50-200 people.

On May 31 the mobile vaccination center will be opened in Karsava county, on June 3 - in Rezekne and Daugavpils counties.
