Economics Ministry calls on guest houses to apply for receiving refugees
RIGA, Feb 25 (LETA) - The Economics Ministry calls on guest houses from across Latvia who are ready to receive Ukrainian refugees, the ministry said in a statement published on social media.
The ministry said that there is no information about refugee flows, but the ministry will collect information about readiness of guest houses and tourist accommodation facilities that are ready to receive refugees from Ukraine when it is necessary.
So far, about 130 tourist accommodation facilities have responded already.
As reported, the Latvian government is preparing a special law for the taking in of war refugees from Ukraine.
It is currently unknown whether refugees will arrive from Ukraine and the approximate number, but the Ministry of the Interior estimates that approximately 10,000 people may arrive in Latvia. It is currently envisaged that refugees will be accommodated in hotels instead of in special camps. Some could also live with relatives or acquaintances, Interior Minister Marija Golubeva (For Development) said on Thursday morning.
Latvia might allocate up to EUR 34.7 million on admission and accommodation of possible refugees from Ukraine.
