More than EUR 60 million invested in reconstruction and renovation of tram infrastructure in Riga in four years
RIGA, Nov 14 (LETA) - Riga municipal public transport company Rigas Satiksme has invested EUR 60.4 million in reconstruction and renovation of tram infrastructure in the city from early 2021 to end-29024, as the company informed LETA.
Of this amount, financing from the European Union Cohesion Fund stood at EUR 40.2 million, while Rigas Satiksme's investment is EUR 20.2 million.
During this period, infrastructure of tram routes #7 and #5 was adapted to low-floor trams.
Five substations were also renovated or rebuilt and elevated tram stop platforms were built at several locations in Riga.
Intersection of Daugava Embankment and 13 Janvara Street was reconstructed to improve traffic flows, including tram movement.
Also during this period, the system of overhead wires was revamped on several sections of tram routes #7 and #1.
