RIGA, Oct 5 (LETA) - Dismantling of the remains of the monument to Soviet soldiers in Riga's Pardaugava will be completed in the coming days, Riga Mayor Martins Stakis said at a press conference organized by the Riga City Council on Wednesday.

Dismantling the monument has been completed by 95 percent, and the first phase of the project will be completed in the coming days, said Stakis.

Future Park will be built in place of the monument as a short-term solution, where children and young people will play sports, there will also be a skate park. Stakis said that he will have more information about short-term plans for the place in the next two weeks.

Ziedot.lv portal's head Ruta Dimanta said that residents had donated a total of EUR 268,385 for demolition of the monument after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The Riga City Council will take a decision on the funds at a meeting later today.
