For Valmiera and Vidzeme wins local elections in Valmiera Region
RIGA, June 6 (LETA) - Mayor Janis Baiks' party For Valmiera and Vidzeme won local elections in Valmiera Region by a landslide on Saturday, the Central Election Commission informed.
For Valmiera and Vidzeme received 55.02 percent of votes, leaving the Latvian Farmers' Union second with 17.04 percent.
The National Alliance followed with 11.37 percent and New Unity with 5.75 percent of votes.
Voter turnout in Valmiera Region was 37.83 percent.
As reported, 327,938 voters or 34.01 percent of eligible voters cast their votes in this year's local government elections, according to the Central Election Commission's data.
This is the lowest voter turnout since the restoration of independence.
