New Unity wins local elections in Cesis Region
RIGA, June 6 (LETA) - New Unity party and current mayor Janis Rozenbergs emerged as winners in local elections in Cesis Region on Saturday, the Central Election Commission informed.
New Unity won the polls with 45.43 percent of votes, leaving the Latvian Farmers' Union second with 11.67 percent. Vidzeme Party came third with 11.26 percent.
Other parties winning representation on the regional council include For Development of Latvia with 9.57 percent, the National Alliance with 6.6 percent, as well as the joint ticket of Movement For and the Progressives with 5.21 percent of the vote.
Voter turnout in the local elections in Cesis Region was 36.54 percent.
As reported, 327,938 voters or 34.01 percent of eligible voters cast their votes in this year's local government elections, according to the Central Election Commission's data.
This is the lowest voter turnout since the restoration of independence.
