Vaccination against Covid-19 this week will also take place on the weekend
RIGA, Jan 6 (LETA) - This week, vaccination against Covid-19 will also take place on the weekend, January 9 and 10, outgoing Minister of Health Ilze Vinkele (For Development) told Latvian Television last night.
She said that vaccination of clinical university hospital medics will conclude on January 6, but that the vaccination of medical students and other hospital staff will continue.
Asked whether 12,000 persons will have been vaccinated by the end of this week, the minister of health answered in the affirmative. ''Yes, this is our plan,'' she said.
As reported, on Monday, 678 persons received Covid-19 vaccines, but so far 1,923 have been vaccinated, according to the National Health Service data.
Latvia so far has received 23,400 vaccines produced by Pfizer and BioNTech. These are vaccines for 11,700 people as one person needs two doses of the vaccine. So far, 25% of these people have been vaccinated so far, according to estimates drawn by LETA.
Almost half of these people have been vaccinated at Riga East University Hospital.
The first vaccines against the coronavirus were delivered to Latvia on December 26. The first delivery contained 9,750 doses of the Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine.
