336 domestic animals in Latvia suffered from wolf attacks in 2024
RIGA, Jan 21 (LETA) - Last year, Latvia recorded 89 cases of wolf attacks on domestic animals, with 336 animals injured or killed in these attacks, LETA was told at the State Forest Service.
Of the wolf attacks recorded last year, 61 targeted sheep, 16 targeted dogs, nine targeted cattle, two targeted goats and one wolf attack was recorded in the territory of a fallow deer garden.
Representatives of the State Forest Service indicated that the highest number of wolf attacks - 14 - was recorded in Rezekne Municipality. Balvi Municipality followed with 12 and Gulbene Municipality with eight attacks. Wolves attacked domestic animals seven times in Ludza Municipality and six times in Jelgava Municipality.
This year, the State Forest Service has checked information about a wolf attack in Jekabpils Municipality where the carnivores reportedly killed a calf.
