Biggest problem in accommodating refugees is retrieval of funding from state - Tukums mayor
RIGA, June 22 (LETA) - Tukums regional mayor Gundars Vaza said that the biggest problem in accommodating refugees is the funding that has not been retrieved from the state budget.
Refugees from Ukraine are accommodated in municipal premises, therefore the local government is not concerned about reduced funding in this respect. The local government has not placed refugees in commercial hotels, but in Jaunpils Castle hotel, dormitories and other municipal premises.
"We are concerned, however, that we have not retrieved the spent money from the state yet," said Vaza. The local government has already spent around EUR 800,000, but has retrieved just EUR 300,000 from the state.
Tukums municipality has accommodated about 700 refugees from Ukraine.
