President expects further state support for regional media
Riga, April 30 (LETA) - Regional media should continue to be supported in order to ensure access to quality content on events of public importance for the inhabitants of the regions, Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics said at a meeting with Culture Minister Agnese Lace (Progressives) at the Riga Castle on Wednesday.
According to the president's advisor Martins Dregeris during the meeting the parties discussed the priorities of the Culture Ministry for 2025, including issues related to media policy, as well as the preparation of the project Liepaja 2027 - European Capital of Culture.
As reported, the Public Integration Fund (PIF) has allocated EUR 1.916 million to 63 regional and diaspora media and cooperation projects under the Media Support Fund program.
The aim of the Media Support Fund is to strengthen the national cultural space in Latvian by supporting the creation of non-commercial, socially relevant journalism in the media, whose tasks are to strengthen the values set out in the Constitution, national consciousness, Latvian cultural space, critical thinking, to promote media responsibility and quality, as well as the cohesion of society on the basis of the Latvian language.
