Regional family physicians concerned about protective equipment, restriction of out-patient services

RIGA, Dec 29 (LETA) - Regional family physicians are concerned about uncertainty in relation to individual protective equipment and disinfectants, and possible restriction of out-patient services, said Liga Kozlovska, president of the Latvian Association of Rural Family Physicians.

She informed that individual protective gear is sufficient for the coming weeks, and it is not clear how the next delivery of the next batch will be organized. Family physicians plan to meet with the Health Ministry's representatives on December 30 to discuss this matter.

"The state of emergency in health care sector puts everything in a framework and makes us act much faster. We have to have a clear knowledge about protective equipment," said Kozlovska.

She also said that there are concerns about possible restriction of scheduled out-patient services as health care services to chronically ill patients is also very important.

Commenting on the work load during the Covid-19 pandemic, Kozlovska said that there is much work.  For example, on Monday, her team provided services to 90 patients, including 25 Covid-19 positive patients or contact persons. She said that these consultations are time consuming and hard, the patients often are scared, especially of they develop serious symptoms.

Commenting on vaccination, Kozlovska said that readiness for vaccination among regional family physicians is high, but many patients still are suspicious about the vaccines.
