Next year's Big Cleanup to take place on last Saturday of April

RIGA, Oct 22 (LETA) - In 2025, the annual nationwide Big Cleanup campaign will take place on April 26 with the motto "We Are Nature!", the event's project manager Aiva Rozenberga told LETA.

The motto has been chosen to dispel the stereotype that man is the controller and master of natural processes, and to encourage a deeper understanding of interactions between human activity and natural processes.

Vita Jaunzeme, the organizer of the Big Cleanup, calls for awareness of the inextricable link between people and nature. "We are nature, and we should remember this for as long as possible," urges Jaunzeme.

Climate and Energy Minister Kaspars Melnis (Greens/Farmers) stresses that Latvia has raised a generation that has learnt the tradition of the Big Cleanup from their childhood and, through their work in the cleanups, have developed their environmentally friendly attitude.

In September, the Big Cleanup signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Song Festival Society, committing to mutually support the development of a deeper understanding in the wider society of the processes of interaction between the environment and people and environmentally friendly activities.
