Mazurs to chair Gulbene municipal council
Riga, June 30 (LETA) - Normunds Mazurs (For Latvia's Development) was unanimously elected as the new head of Gulbene municipality at a meeting of the municipal council on Monday.
Mazurs was the only candidate for the post of mayor and all 15 municipal councilors voted for him.
As reported, the party For Latvia's Development won the most seats - six out of 15 - in the local elections in Gulbene. The party won 35.8 percent of the votes.
Three representatives were elected from the list of the Union of Greens and Farmers in Gulbene. In total, the party won 19.6 percent of the votes.
The three other political forces that managed to break the 5 percent threshold have two seats each - the Latvian Association of Regions, the New Unity and the joint list of the New Conservative Party and the Vidzeme Party.
