Liepaja Regional Hospital closes one Covid-19 ward, reopens rehab ward
RIGA, Nov 16 (LETA) - Liepaja Regional Hospital has closed one of its Covid-19 wards and reopened the rehabilitation ward, the hospital's spokeswoman Indra Grase informed LETA.
The decision has been taken after the number of Covid-19 patients receiving treatment at the Liepaja hospital decreased.
As at Tuesday, Liepaja Regional Hospital was treating 51 Covid-19 patients. Seven of them were treated in the intensive care unit, including six patients on mechanical ventilation due to their extremely severe condition.
Another five Covid-19 patients were receiving high-flow oxygen therapy.
According to the spokeswoman, three Covid-19 patients, two of them unvaccinated, were admitted to the hospital in the past 24 hours, while 12 other patients were discharged.
The rehab ward has been reopened to provide rehabilitation services to convalescing patients, including those recovering from Covid-19.
As reported, the number of Covid-19 patients in Latvia's hospitals dropped by 6.3 percent - from 1,338 on Monday to 1,254 on Tuesday, the National Health Service informed.
In the past 24 hours, 104 Covid-19 patients were admitted to Latvia's hospitals and 156 were discharged. Another 31 Covid-19 patients died, according to the data released by the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC).
Of the Covid-19 patients receiving hospital treatment, 1,051 have symptoms of moderate severity and 203 patients, or 16.2 percent, are severe cases.
A total of 20,986 Covid-19 patients have been discharged from Latvia's hospitals since the start of the pandemic.
