RIGA, July 15 (LETA) - In the first five months of 2025, the number of guest nights spent at Latvia's tourist accommodation establishments grew by 11.3 percent against the same period a year ago to 1.575 million guest nights, according to the data released by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB).

Compared to the same period last year, the number of guest nights spent by non-resident tourists at the Latvian tourist accommodation establishments increased by 16.3 percent to 975,200 nights, while the number of nights spent by resident guests rose by 4 percent to 599,600 in January-April 2025.

Overall, the Latvian tourist accommodations welcomed 903,000 guests in the first five months of this year, which is 9.1 percent more than in the first five months of 2024, with the number of non-resident guests growing 12.9 percent year-on-year to 533,900 and the number of resident guests rising 4.1 percent to 369,100.

Compared to the respective period of the pre-pandemic year 2019, the number of guests at the Latvian tourist accommodation establishments was 2.5 percent lower in the first five months of this year. Whereas the number of non-resident guests was still 15.4 percent below the number recorded for the first five months of 2019, the number of resident guests surpassed the pre-pandemic figure by 25.2 percent. At the same time, the number of guest nights was 12.5 percent below the figure achieved in January-May 2019, with the number of nights spent by non-resident guests was 22.6 percent below the pre-pandemic figure.

In May 2025, the number of non-resident and resident visitors came to 250,300, which is 9.4 percent more than in May 2024. The number of non-resident guests grew by 9.9 percent to 153,300, while the number of resident guests was up 8.7 percent to 98,000.

Visitors spent 430,000 nights at the tourist establishments this past May, an increase of 11.5 percent against May 2024. The number of nights spent by non-residents, compared to May 2024, grew by 13.3 percent to 276,100. Resident guests spent 153,900 nights in May, up 8.5 percent year-on-year.

Non-residents spent an average of 1.8 nights at the tourist accommodation establishments in May, same as a year ago. Resident guests spent an average of 1.6 night, also the same year-on-year.

In May, the majority of non-resident visitors came from Lithuania (18,900), Germany (17,000), Estonia (15,500), the United Kingdom (11,600), Finland (10,800), Poland (8,600), the United States (7,100), Sweden (6,300), Norway (5,000), Spain (4,600), and France (4,100).

Most non-resident visitors were hosted in Riga - 77.4 percent, Jurmala - 6.1 percent, Marupe municipality - 3.5 percent, and Liepaja - 2.1 percent.

Resident visitors stayed mainly in Riga (30.6 percent), Jurmala (9.8 percent), Liepaja (6.5 percent), Cesis Region (4.5 percent), Daugavpils (4.1 percent), Kuldiga municipality (3.4 percent), and the municipalities of Sigulda and Valmiera (2.8 percent in each municipality).

The average room occupancy rate of hotels and other tourist accommodation establishments in Latvia was 47.5 percent in May (a rise of 4.4 percentage points, compared to May 2024), including a 60.8 percent occupancy rate in Riga (an increase of 4.5 percentage points, compared to May 2024).
