Unvaccinated seniors still have more severe Covid-19 symptoms - Rezekne hospital

RIGA, March 22 (LETA) - Rezekne hospital still sees a trend that the majority of patients with severe Covid-19 symptoms are unvaccinated seniors, LETA learned from the hospital's representative Laura Sondore.

"The situation at Rezekne hospital has been stable over the past month - about 50 Covid-19 patients are treated at the hospital daily. Every day up to eight new Covid-19 patients are hospitalized," she said.

Early this week, there were 52 Covid-19 patients at Rezekne hospital, and 24 of them had Covid-19 as their basic diagnosis, including eight children.

Sondore said that one of the Covid-19 patients has severe symptoms. Still, the overall trend is positive - there are less people who depend on oxygen systems, and many patients have Covid-19 as a side diagnosis.

She said that also medics get infected, but the situation is not critical. "Out of 694 employees, 25 are infected right now, and this number is decreasing," she said.
