RIGA, Jan 28 (LETA) - With 115 Covid-19 patients admitted to hospitals in the past 24 hours, the total number of coronavirus patients in Latvia's inpatient facilities decreased by five people to 1,047, according to the data released by the National Health Service.

The number of hospitalized coronavirus patients with symptoms of medium severity reduced by four from Tuesday to 944, while the number of severe patients reduced by one to 103.

In the past 24 hours, 94 coronavirus patients were discharged from hospitals.

Altogether 5,937 coronavirus patients have been discharged from Latvia's hospitals since the start of the pandemic.

As reported, in the past 24 hours Latvia confirmed 965 new Covid-19 cases and ten people, including one person under the age of 25, died of the coronavirus disease, according to the data released by the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC).

Latvia's total Covid-19 caseload thus reached 63,992, while death toll grew to 1,148 people, or 1.82 percent of all the confirmed cases.

Of the 10.982 Covid-19 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 8.8 percent came back positive. The CDC explained earlier that in the European Union this indicator is considered important because when this figure rises above 4 percent, the spread of the disease is considered to be rapid and uncontrolled.

Of the latest Covid-19 victims, one person was between 20 and 25 years old, one was in the age group of 40 to 45 years, one in the age group of 60 to 65 years, two in the age group of 70 to 80 years and five in the age group of 80 to 85 years.

According to LETA's estimates, Latvia has recorded 11,010 Covid-19 cases in the past 14 days, while the country's cumulative 14-day Covid-19 incidence per 100,000 population is now 577.1.
