Jelgava terminates cooperation agreements with sister cities in Russia and Belarus

RIGA, March 3 (LETA) - Jelgava city council has terminated cooperation with Russian city of Magadan and Belarusian city of Baranavichy.

Jelgava mayor Andris Ravins (Greens/Farmers) explained that such a step has been made in solidarity with the Ukrainian nation who is sustaining severe military attacks.

"Termination of the cooperation agreements is a message to the heads and residents of both cities that we condemn the aggression of the Russian and Belarusian governments and their decision to launch a cruel war against Ukraine," said Ravins.

The sister city agreement with Baranavichy was signed in 2003 and with Magadan in 2006.
